How the Rx Lens Process WorksUpdated an hour ago

Prescription lenses work a little differently from our standard replacement lenses. Instead of shipping lenses to you, we build them into your frames here and ship the finished pair back. Here is the whole process, start to finish.

What Is the Prescription Lens Process?

  1. Place your order online. You will choose your lens material, your lens type and your coatings, and you will enter your pupillary distance (PD). If you are ordering progressives, you will also provide a segment height.

  2. Send us your prescription. You can upload it during checkout, take a photo of it, or email it to us after you order.

  3. We review and approve your prescription. Our Rx Eyewear Experts check that everything we need is there and that the values are within what we can make.

  4. We send you a prepaid shipping label or Send-me-a-box packaging (with a prepaid label included), depending on which option you select during checkout. Once your prescription is approved, we release a print-at-home label or packaging bundle so you can send your frames in.

  5. You ship us your frames. Pack them carefully and drop them off. The label is included in the price of your order.

  6. We make and install your lenses. Your new prescription lenses are cut, coated and fitted to your frames by our team.

  7. We ship your frames back to you. Your original lenses come back in the same package.

Do I Need to Send In My Frames for Rx Lenses?

Yes. Every prescription order requires us to have your frames in hand before your lenses are made. Prescription lenses are cut to the exact shape and depth of your specific frame, so there is no way to make them accurately without it.

This is the one step of the process that cannot be skipped. If you are not able to be without your sunglasses for a few weeks, prescription lenses may not be the right fit for you right now.

Shipping to us is covered. Your order includes a prepaid, print-at-home shipping label, which we release once your prescription has been approved. If you would rather not source your own box, you can add our frame packaging bundle to your order for an additional cost. It arrives with packaging and a label already inside.

Will You Install My Rx Lenses for Me?

Yes, and installation is always done by us. Prescription lenses cannot be installed at home at any point.

Standard replacement lenses are designed to be swapped in yourself. Prescription lenses are not. They are edged to a precise fit and mounted under tension, and a home installation risks cracking the lens, damaging your frame, or shifting the optical centers out of alignment with your eyes. Your frames will arrive back with the new lenses already fitted and ready to wear.

Can I Send a Paper or Photo Copy of My Prescription With My Frames?

Please do not put your prescription in the box with your frames. We have to approve your prescription before we can release your shipping label, so it needs to reach us before your frames do.

There are three ways to get it to us, and all of them work:

  • Upload it during checkout.

  • Take a photo of it and upload that.

  • Email it to us after you place your order.

A clear photo of the original document is fine. We need to be able to read every value, along with the date and your prescriber's signature.

How Long Will My Rx Lenses Take?

Plan on 3 to 4 weeks from the day your frames arrive at our facility. We start the clock at arrival rather than at checkout, because how quickly frames reach us varies quite a bit from one order to the next.

Mirrored lenses take additional time across every variation, since the mirror coating is applied as a separate step.

Add your own shipping time in both directions to get a full picture of the timeline.

What If There's an Issue With My Rx Lenses?

If something is not right, contact our Rx Eyewear Experts. We offer a one-time remake within 60 days of delivery when we confirm there was an issue with the lenses or a mistake on our end.

A few things to know:

  • A remake requires sending your frames back to us. We will send you a prepaid label for the return.

  • We cannot accept returns or remakes for a change of mind, such as wanting a different lens color.

  • Remakes are not available after 60 days.

Do You Make Rx Lenses for Customers Outside the US?

Not at this time. Our prescription lens service is available within the United States only. Because prescription orders travel in both directions, the customs process adds delays and complications we cannot control, so we are not able to offer it internationally.
