If you've shopped for replacement lenses and noticed a pair that fades from dark at the top to light at the bottom, you've found a gradient lens. It's one of the most popular tint styles out there, and for good reason — it looks great and it's genuinely useful.
The Short Answer
A gradient lens is tinted darkest at the top and gradually lightens as it moves down toward the bottom of the lens. Instead of one flat shade covering the whole lens, you get a smooth transition between two levels of darkness in a single piece of polycarbonate.
That gradual fade isn't just a style choice — it changes how you actually use the lens. Most of the glare you deal with outdoors comes from above: direct sun, bright sky, overhead light. A gradient lens puts its darkest tint right where that glare hits hardest, then eases up toward the bottom so you can still glance down clearly — at a dashboard, a phone, a trail map, or a menu — without pulling your sunglasses off.
Revant Gradient Lenses: Polarized or Non-Polarized
Every gradient color we offer comes in both a polarized and a non-polarized version, so you can choose the fade you like and still get the level of glare protection that fits how you use your sunglasses.
- Non-polarized gradient lenses give you that classic dark-to-light fade with a lighter overall tint — great for everyday wear, driving, and moving between bright and shaded areas.
- Polarized gradient lenses add a glare-cutting filter on top of the fade, which is why our polarized VLT (Visible Light Transmission — how much light actually makes it through the lens) runs darker and more consistent across colors than non-polarized. If you're on the water, snow, or anywhere glare bounces back at you, polarized is the one to reach for.
Below are the four gradient colors we offer, with the VLT for each version so you know exactly how much light you're working with.
Coastal Blue Gradient
- Non-polarized: 55% VLT
- Polarized: 12% VLT
Our lightest gradient by far. The non-polarized version is a subtle, fashion-forward tint that's easy to wear indoors and out, while the polarized version brings serious glare protection for bright, reflective days on the water.
Stealth Black Gradient
- Non-polarized: 14% VLT
- Polarized: 12% VLT
A classic, do-it-all black fade. Both versions run dark, making this a strong choice for bright, sunny conditions where you want consistent coverage with the added benefit of a lighter window at the bottom of the lens.
Gray Green Gradient
- Non-polarized: 27% VLT
- Polarized: 12% VLT
A neutral, true-to-color tint. The non-polarized version sits in the middle of our lineup for everyday brightness, while the polarized version cuts glare hard for driving, water, and long days outside.
Dark Brown Gradient
- Non-polarized: 27% VLT
- Polarized: 12% VLT
Warm and contrast-boosting. Like Gray Green, the non-polarized version offers a moderate, versatile tint, and the polarized version steps up glare reduction — especially useful on trails and around water where terrain definition matters.
