What We Can Make: Frames, Prescriptions and Lens OptionsUpdated 2 hours ago
Before you order, it is worth checking three things: that your frame works with prescription lenses, that your prescription falls within what we can make, and that the lens you want is available for your combination.
Which Frames Qualify for Rx Lenses?
We can make prescription lenses for:
Full frame sunglasses, where the frame surrounds the entire lens.
Half frame and semi-rimless sunglasses, where the frame holds the top of the lens and the bottom edge is exposed.
We cannot make prescription lenses for:
Rimless frames, where the lens is drilled and mounted with no surrounding frame.
Shield frames, which use a single lens across both eyes.
Beyond frame style, some frame shapes and sizes have limits of their own. A very small lens shape may not leave enough room for a progressive corridor, and a strongly curved wrap frame can limit how much power we can put into the lens. If you are not sure about your frame, send it past our Rx Eyewear Experts before you order.
Which Prescriptions Qualify?
We can work with most everyday prescriptions. The general ranges are:
Sphere (SPH): +5.00 to -6.50
Add power (ADD): up to +3.00
Cylinder (CYL): reviewed individually. If your cylinder falls outside what we can make in your chosen material and frame, we will contact you before proceeding.
Prism: accepted. Place your order as normal, and our Rx Eyewear Experts will reach out to verify the details before production begins.
Plus cylinder notation: accepted, though it is uncommon. Prescriptions written in plus cylinder are verified by our Rx experts before we proceed.
Your prescription also needs to be:
An eyeglass prescription. We cannot use a contact lens prescription. See Eyeglass vs. Contact Lens Prescriptions: Which One Do I Use? if you are not sure which one you have.
Signed and dated by your prescriber.
Currently valid. We cannot fill an expired prescription. If your prescription lists its own expiration date, that date applies, even if it is sooner than two years from the exam.
We make single vision and progressive lenses. We do not make lined bifocals or trifocals in any material or frame.
What Lens Materials Do You Offer?
Polycarbonate. Light and highly impact resistant. A solid all-purpose choice, and a popular one for active use.
Trivex. Similar impact resistance to polycarbonate, with slightly crisper optics. A good option if you are sensitive to visual distortion.
High Index 1.67. A denser material that produces a thinner, lighter lens for stronger prescriptions.
What Lens Types Can I Get?
Clear. No tint.
Sunglass tints. Available in both non-mirrored and mirrored finishes. Mirrored lenses require additional production time.
NeoChromes®. Our photochromic lens, which darkens in sunlight and lightens indoors.
Transitions®. Brand-name photochromic lenses.
What Coatings Are Included?
Available coatings depend on the material you choose and, for mirrored lenses, the mirror color. Our Rx Eyewear Experts can tell you exactly what is available for the material, tint and frame you have in mind.
